Soaking up summer

August has been full and lovely! After the July Valley Made Market we kicked up the studio time and cranked out a bunch of new creations. Artwork, hats, sailboat zip hoodies, and fresh tees. Then we snuck away to the Bay Area to visit family and soak in a little city and NorCal beach time. It was an amazing trip and just what we all needed. We drove home in a day and hit the ground running prepping for the studio sale and printing wholesale orders.

We've been busy launching the Valley Made Market Holiday applications (open until August 31st at midnight), working on a few custom designs (more peeks of those soon), planning the massive sale that we're in the middle of, and dreaming on a new window display for fall (Paige is plotting something BIG).

I've been particularly struck with gratitude lately- a deep thanks for my health, mobility, relationships, and the ability to do this creative and community oriented work. I remain hopeful despite the messy state of the world and I think that much of that is because I get to interact with such delightful humans through elSage and Valley Made. There is so much good in this world, and we all have massive amounts to be grateful for. I think that joy and connection are coming back, but we may need to prioritize them more heavily. I believe that community and gathering will help move us forward and that all in all the youth is an amazing group who give me optimism about what's next.

Up next is more creating, more community events, and more joy. I hope you'll join me and stay grateful, find some connection this week, do something that makes your heart happy.

With heart,
Phoebe

Goodbye Summer
The end of summer has been fast and furious. It was filled with back to school prep, squeezing in the last of summer delights, creative projects and not enough gardening. We've had extra teens through our house, backyard gatherings, island concerts, and the hottest Valley Made Market to date. Our fall window display (dreamed up by our main staffer Paige) is coming to life (see a peek of us helping her out with the paper mache part of it here).

Paige and I have been working on turning our Holiday Market Flyer into a poster and new yard signs!!! We're super excited to be hosting the holiday market series right in the center of everyone's neighborhood in Mount Vernon. Hillcrest Lodge is in the middle of Hillcrest Park up the hill from Downtown Mount Vernon with easy access to I-5. If you're a maker and looking for a holiday show we have 3 weekend long shows to choose from. Applications are open for just 2 more days!

I'm looking forward to tea & soup season, a little routine, digging into the custom work and printing that has been coming our way and bringing a few new designs from my sketchbook to reality. I have plans for a fall art installation in the shop that will have a public input component and I'm excited-nervous to debut it in the coming weeks.

I took a little breather from politics this summer. (We all need to rest when needed) Everything just feels so heavy, and we had a busy summer filled with raising excellent boys (arguably the most impactful political action I will ever make). Fall means jumping back in where/when I can. It always feels powerful to be in a group of likeminded folks- there's a march happening on Monday in Mount Vernon. Meet at Laventure & College, 1pm-3pm. Find more details here.

While the goodbye to summer is always bittersweet I'm ever-grateful for all of the beauty, adventure, excitement, creativity, and brightness that summer has for us. I have stacks of things to look forward to and am constantly in awe of this life I get to live. I hope that you're finding joy, wonder, power, and gratitude in your daily life. And if any of those things are lacking I wish you the bravery to make changes. I remind myself often that bravery is mostly just doing it scared, and often leaping before you're technically ready.

May we all soak up the last bits of summer this weekend. And if you're looking for a little treat stop in at the shop or ship something free to your door with the code LONGWEEKEND.

With gratitude & wonder,
Phoebe
